Gathering Resources

As I review my GAME plan, I see places where resources and information will be required in order for the plan to be effective.

First and foremost, I need administrative support. I will be working closely with my building principal to find conferences that will help my professional growth. I will also need to work with our Technology Coordinator in finding technology-based assessment tools.

As I begin my search for assessment tools, I will need access to online resources, as well as my peers. I will be counting on the feedback of my colleagues to gather opinions on the usability and application of the various tools they currently use. I think an initial survey through Google Forms will be helpful in gathering ideas from my colleagues, allowing them to describe the tools they use while collecting the data in an easy-to-read format.

I am excited to begin my GAME plan adventure. Both of my goals will be much easier to carry out if I have all of the resources ready and available. I know through discussions that I already have my principal and some of my colleagues ready to help me achieve my goals, which will go a long way.

If you have any input on ways I can continue to improve upon my GAME plan, I would appreciate your comments.

  1. Vikki,
You might want to talk with the special education department as well. They often have access and knowledge of special apps or programs that might assist students with disabilities or struggling students with technology-driven assessments. I have sought the advice of my technology coach this year and have gained information regarding different free Google Apps that I have used with my students for assessments. I have used PowToons, Google Sites etc.

  2. Hi Vicki
Love your Game Plan and your Plan of Action. Sounds like you and I will be experiencing a similar journey, as we attend trainings to become even more Tech Smart. I cannot wait to implement all that I will learn at the conference that I will attend this summer in Atlanta for five days.

With what I have learned thus far, I feel so much wiser and much more comfortable executing my game plan and my lesson plans. I am still very "green" however, and so I will be absorbing as much information as I can retain.

Please let's share what we learn, as we learn. I would love to hear what you hear as you attend those conferences.

    Good job.

  3. Hi Vicki
Some suggestions for you: I found it helpful to actually show my Administrative Team a video of what an interactive classroom actually looks like. The videos from the classes that I have been taking here at WALDEN have been awesome. Once the CEO of the school understood how far away from an interactive classroom we were, he called a meeting, invited me to tell them all that we needed, and $70,000 later there were Promethean Smart Boards in every classroom, each student has a tablet, and all teachers have new Laptops. Also, all teachers are undergoing trainings, and I have been designated as the person to go out to receive 5 days of training off site in order to be able to conduct turn around trainings. I am excited about where we are head tech wise. I notice that our students are actively engaged in the classroom, even when they say they don't want to participate.

It would also be helpful for you to collect links of online resources and store them in one place for all teachers to utilize. I believe that our Professor suggested www.delicious.com as one such site. It would be great to invite your colleagues to share the information that they have so that everyone benefits.

I like your GAME plan, because it puts you in a leadership role.

  4. I like your Game Plan and you reflected on some important areas for development. Your school administrators are a great resource. Another area you may look is your districts professional development staff. This will depend on your school district and the resources they offer, but I was just reflecting on the summer professional development class list that was sent to us this past week. They offered many classes pertaining to technology and most were one day for two to three hours. Your building technology department is a good resource along with peer collaboration, which you identified.

  5. Hi Vicki,
I like your first goal of gaining administrative support. I think administrative approval is critical to obtaining your personal goal. Let’s face it, technology is expensive. If we as educators want our classrooms to be tech-savvy and classrooms of the digital age, we are going to need the support and funds from our school districts. Do all of your classrooms have Smart Boards and computers? I know that some schools still have classrooms without those tools. I know that my school district has a policy put in place that requires teachers to draft letters and attend Board of Education meetings when wanting the school to purchase anything for a specific classroom. What policies are put in place at your district? Do teachers find it to be almost impossible to get anywhere? I know that it is definitely a challenge to convince our administrators to support a costly initiative. What are your thoughts?
